Honoring Through Service

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’” – Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

This coming Monday, January 16 is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Since the “King Holiday and Service Act” was passed in 1994, this traditional holiday off of work has become a day “on” for volunteerism and community service events. Salvation Army locations across the country are right on board, hosting a variety of events throughout this weekend that will provide you with the opportunity to give back to your community.

Rather than eating four bowls of cereal and watching mindless day-time television, consider calling up your local Salvation Army to find out what they’re up to this weekend. Below are some highlighted events happening:

Cleveland, OH: On Sunday, January 15, the Cleveland Temple will be dedicating their entire Sunday morning service to MLK with a special tribute. Topics include: What does this day mean to us and what can you do today to use MLK’s message to improve your community? (Website)
