Welcome New Members!

The Salvation Army’s National Advisory Board (NAB) is growing! As of January 1, nine new members were joyfully welcomed into an already dynamic group of civic, philanthropic and business leaders. Each new member offers a diverse range of business skills and experience.

“We are thrilled to be growing the size and scope of The Salvation Army’s National Advisory Board,” said National Board Chair and President of Charities for the Dallas Cowboys, Mrs. Charlotte Jones Anderson. “The Board has now grown to 44 members and the combined wealth of experience, talent and dedication of these new leaders will bring a wonderful set of fresh ideas to our goal of helping others.”

Meet our new members!

Mrs. Pamela Abdalla: Mrs. Abdalla serves as chairman of The Salvation Army’s Middle East Advisory Board, helping to launch the first Salvation Army outpost in the United Arab Emirates. While serving as a member of The Salvation Army’s Greater Pittsburgh Regional Advisory Board since 2004 and volunteering in her spare time, she was a recipient of the Catherine Booth Award in 2006.

Mr. Gary Brown: Mr. Brown is the Chief Executive Officer of Mount West Investments. He serves as a member of the Greater Pittsburgh Advisory Board where he served as Chairman from 2006-2010. He is currently Chairman of the Program Committee, which oversees Emergency Disaster Services, Family Caring Center and Social Services. Volunteering his services at Ground Zero following the 9-11 terrorist attacks, he was the well-deserved recipient of the William Booth Award in 2008.

Mr. William Burke: Mr. Burke is Senior Vice President of Nationwide Financial Marketing in Ohio where he is responsible for all company marketing. His extensive experience and skills in marketing and business strategy, product development and innovation, advertising and communication, and relationship management will greatly benefit the NAB.

Mr. Michael L. Ducker: Mr. Ducker serves as Chief Operating Officer for FedEx Express and President of its International divisions, leading the company’s unprecedented international expansion by setting strategic direction in 220 countries and territories. Additionally, he serves as Chairman of the U.S. Coalition of Service Industries and the International Policy Committee of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Michael Flaherty: Mr. Flaherty is the President and co-founder of Walden Media, producing over 30 films including The Chronicles of Narnia, Charlotte’s Web, Holes, Bridge to Terabithia, and Amazing Grace. As a writer, he has been published in a number of newspapers and magazines. Additionally, he serves as Chairman of the U.S. Coalition of Service Industries and the International Policy Committee of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.


Mr. Eric Holm: With over 30 years of experience in the restaurant industry, Mr. Holm is the owner of Metro Corral Partners, a 28-unit Golden Corral franchisee in Florida and Georgia. Along with his involvement with The Salvation Army of Orlando, Florida, he and his wife, Diane founded Helpings from the Heart Thanksgiving Feast in 1992.

Ms. Marcia Larson: Ms. Larson is Manager of HR Content & Communities at Dow Jones/Wall Street Journal. Her current work incorporates using and training on the use of social media marketing. She also participates in international relief work annually.

Mr. Joel Manby: As President and Chief Executive Officer of Herschend Family Entertainment (HFE), the largest family owned theme park corporation in the U.S., Mr. Manby owns and operates 26 properties across ten states. Prior to this, Mr. Manby was part of the start-up team for Saturn Corporation and was instrumental in launching Saturn’s innovative marketing and distribution strategy.

Ambassador Gaddi H. Vasquez: Ambassador Vasquez is currently the Senior Vice President of Public Affairs for the Southern California Edison Company. Prior to this, he served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Organizations in Rome, Italy. He was also the third-longest serving Director of the United States Peace Corps.
