Salvation Army to Announce NFL Draft Pick!

If you haven’t been watching, New York City’s Radio City Music Hall has been home to the NFL draft picks for the last couple of days. Last night, teams like the Washington Redskins celebrated their new quarterback pick “RG3”, Robert Griffin III, while the Indianapolis Colts grabbed number one draft pick, Andrew Luck. The second and third rounds will happen today while the fourth round will take place tomorrow. The famous venue has been bustling with activity while fans eagerly watch from home.

Tomorrow’s event will once again showcase an array of team colors, jerseys, famous names, and numbers. And standing among the action will be one unassuming man in his own team’s “jersey” – a navy blue Salvation Army uniform!

But not to worry, you won’t see Salvation Army officers battling it out at professional football games this fall (unless we’re ringing the bells outside the stadium for kettle donations!).

Rather, Major George Hood, Chief Communications Officer for The Salvation Army will be announcing the Dallas Cowboys’ fourth round draft pick tomorrow morning! Major Hood was selected by the Cowboys to be the team’s voice of tomorrow’s announcement, a true honor and emblematic of The Salvation Army’s great relationship with the team.

“This is a very exciting opportunity. A way to recognize the long-standing relationship between The Salvation Army and the Dallas Cowboys,” said Major Hood. “It will certainly be an honor for me to announce the fourth round draft pick and on a personal note, should be a lot of fun!“

For 14 years, the Dallas Cowboys have strongly supported The Salvation Army in a variety of ways. Charlotte Jones Anderson, Executive Vice President of Brand Management of the Dallas Cowboys, is our National Advisory Board Chairperson. And since 1998, she’s organized our annual Red Kettle Kickoff event at Cowboys stadium on Thanksgiving Day, while also serving in other capacities such as through the team’s Christmas Wish fundraising campaign.

The Salvation Army is thrilled to be the representative of choice for announcing tomorrow’s draft picks.

Stay tuned: we’ll be sure to post pictures here of the event early next week!
