Salvation Army Responds to 3rd Largest Wildfire In Colorado History

Since lightning struck the morning of June 9, 2012 in High Park and caused the third largest wildfire in Colorado history, The Salvation Army has provided food, hydration and emotional and spiritual support to community members who fled their homes for safety. As of Tuesday night, officials estimated that 10 percent of the fire was considered contained.

Together, The Salvation Army and the American Red Cross are providing relief services to evacuees as firefighters corral the massive fire, which has burned more than 43,000 acres in Larimer County. The Salvation Army has established feeding operations at the evacuee shelter in the McKee Building at the Ranch in Loveland, which is run by the Red Cross.

At the shelter, The Salvation Army is serving more than 300 meals a day. To show support for evacuees, the Old Chicago Pizza Foundation assisted the Army in providing 150 meals on June 11. The Salvation Army will stay on site with support, for anyone in need of assistance, for as long as the Army is needed in the community.

If anyone would like to support The Salvation Army’s relief efforts in High Park, donations can be made online at or by phone at 1-800- SAL-ARMY (1-800-725-2769), and designated “High Park Fire.” Salvation Army disaster services are funded entirely by donors, and The Salvation Army uses 100 percent of all disaster donations in support of disaster relief operations.

  1. I am a Disaster Relief Chaplain. Trained through Foursquare International, have completed DRT, Fema courses. Willing to help serve food or provide spiritual support. Currently, Foursquare has called people to the New Mexico fire, but I was unable to go that far at this time. PLEASE CONTACT ME if I can help.
