Update & Pictures: Salvation Army Continues Aid in Colorado
The ten major fires burning west of Colorado Springs since June 23 have been contained or are on their way to full containment with help from a welcomed weekend of rain.
Since June 24, The Salvation Army has been aiding the several hundred individuals affected by the fires. Teams of volunteers are meeting the immediate and short-term needs of survivors, displaced residents and other emergency responders. As of date, mobile feeding units have served over 17,000 meals, 20,000 snacks and 44,000 bottles of water to fire survivors, first responders, emergency and military teams, FEMA response teams, and utility workers. We blogged last week about Laine Hendricks and Claire Dunmore, support volunteers who were recruited from The Salvation Army Golden State Division to assist with our relief efforts there. During their service time, they were able to snap a few on-the-scene pictures. We’re thankful they shared them with us.
