Send a “Blessing” to MN Flood Survivors

Three weeks following the worst flash flooding disaster in more than a century, residents and local governments from Northeastern Minnesota are continuing to pick up the pieces and determine recovery plans for restoring over $100 million in property damage.

As an update, donations from the public and Minnesota businesses have helped The Salvation Army provide more than $100,000 worth of flood assistance, including more than 40,000 bottles of water, 1,600 cleanup kits and 10,000 meals and snacks. This support has also been funding hotel stays, bug sprays, clothing, cleaning products and other items.

For anyone who has donated or volunteered, your support has been so appreciated!

Local Duluth resident Jim Rodman was quoted in The Salvation Army Northern Division’s Summer E-Newsletter released last week:

“Absolutely incredible. The outpouring of the meals, the snacks, the water – it’s kept people going. They don’t have to worry about meals. Just run over, grab a bite and get back to work. Not only the residents here, but the MnDOT crews working 16 hours a day, seven days a week. The Salvation Army’s outpouring of compassion has just been overwhelming.” (For more updates and stories about how your donations are making a huge impact, visit the Northern Division’s website or check them out on Facebook.)

Over 10,000 meals have been served to flood survivors and emergency responders since the June flooding.

Particularly helpful were cleanup kit donations from area supporters, such as the $14,690 donations for clean up supplies, a joint effort of the Gannett Foundation and a text-to-give campaign created by KARE 11 News.

On the path to recovery: 17,000 cleanup kits were donated by individuals and Minnesota businesses.
