It’s Back-to-School Shopping Time in Chattanooga!

The Target School Spree is off to a great start!

The Salvation Army Chattanooga is one of many locations partnering with generous retailer Target to provide local children in need with all of the supplies, backpacks and clothing they need for a successful year of school.

Yesterday, 30 area kids received an $80 gift card and a volunteer or Salvation Army employee to guide them through the shopping experience. We’re so thankful for the many volunteers who help us with our back-to-school initiatives every summer!

Have you ever thought about volunteering with children? We would love for your help! Click here to find contact info for your local Salvation Army.

  4. This program is great. Do you have any programs near Jackson, TN like this? If so I’m pretty sure we’d qualify, since we receive only $400 – $500 monthly in child support. Since we’ve moved we’ve waited over 3 weeks to receive food stamps and have not signed up for any other programs other than TennCare. I’ve been disabled for 10 years but refused to sign up for disability or government programs, until now that I cannot take care of my children on my own. Any and all help you can give or send us to will be very much appreciated. Thank you.

  5. I am unemployed and my children would benefit from a pair of jeans and school supplies. How can I get help for my children in the Los Angeles area?

  6. how can i get help with a table dinning set, i new one…… thank you..

  10. I was wondering how can one go about getting donations for their child? My daughter is a senior this year and I don’t have the money to buy her school supplies for the first time and I am at a loss as to what to do. Please if you could tell me what I need to do or where I can get help. Thank you for all you do.

  11. i am trying to find out how to go about getting help for a family in Walla Walla,Wa they are a young couple with 6 children, and are in need of some help, its almost school time and they could sure use some help with school clothes for their children, they could also use a couple sets of bunk beds for the children, they have 3 boys and 3 girls, from the ages of 5 to 13.the mother is going blind, and the dad has to stay at home to care for her and the children, they are such a good little family and could sure use some help.

  12. I have a family that is in great need of back to school clothing and school supplies. Is there a referral process to inquire if these two children qualify for this program?

  13. I tried to donate 4 pieces of furniture today. I was told to wait home all day. When i called to have the pieces picked up I was given NO information about how the process for donating was limited. the driver refused to take all four pieces for a variety of reasons. Why was I not told about the requirement for donations? One item is a handpainted media center that could easily be sold as a wardrobe or amoire. It’s very large and I told the gentleman who I set up this pick up with. He said “no problem” the driver and the helper will be happy to take it. I will NEVER donate anything to Salvatation Army again. I would suggest that those who are able to give choose another organization. Apparently Salvation Army is only interesting in “selling new furniture”. The worst part is that when I called to complain that I was not given the rules the “supervisor” whose name I neglected to get called me a liar and hung up on me. Very nice. Charity begins at home; but not at the Salvation Army.

  18. Ann – I’m sorry to hear about this situation and your frustration. Each Salvation Army unit is individually managed and operated so I would suggest sending your complaint The Salvation Army that you dealt with directly.

I do know that the general requirement for donations is “gently used” so that the items are resellable. Our family stores actually exist primarily to fund our Adult Rehabilitation Centers (ARC) which provide drug and alcohol treatment for about 350,000 men and women each year. It’s ultimately up to each family store what they determine to be of value.

Either way, I’m happy to forward on your comments and contact information to the store that you were working with if you wouldn’t mind sharing your contact information on here or sending it to our Media Relations team at : MediaRelations@USN.SalvationArmy.org. I hope to get this worked out for you. Thanks so much for your feedback and your patience.

Also – for more information, feel free to visit the ARC website at http://www.SATruck.org

  36. I have been a member of the Salvation Army Church for seven years, and i do not like the way that I am being treated. When I first started attending everything was fine, but as each of the previous captains left, the new captain, we have now is very disrespectful to me and my family. I am talking about the Platts, especially Mrs. Platt. She is so disrespectful. You should see the smug attitudes that she gives to me. It was one morning, the church was having a breakfast and she treated me so badly. Captain Platt’s family is also rude and disrespectful. And I did not do anything to them.I think that they need to be replaced with someone who will treat everyone the same. And I hope that it can be done soon. The Banks are also the same way. I do not understand their behavior. I hope that this can be resolved soon. Thank you for all of your help. I want to remain a member of salvation Army Church, but if this kind of behavior continues, I will not be a member of the Salvation Army Church. I needed to tell someone, because it is not fair.I THINK THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY !!!!
