The Ponderosa Fire, which began Saturday as a result of lightning, has chased thousands of Northern California residents from their homes.

Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) teams mobilized imemdiately on Saturday. Currently, The Salvation Army is providing food, beverages and emotional care for survivors and evacuees throughout the Redding/Shasta County region via canteens and a mobile kitchen unit in use at Big League Dreams on Viking Way.

“We are providing meals and hydration to the fire personnel at the out posts, road blocks, and incident commands, and are assisting with evacuee needs, as well,” states Marie Moore, The Salvation Army Social Services Director for the Redding Corps.

As of last night, the fire was only 5% contained. In the aftermath of the disaster, The Salvation Army will focus on providing for the immediate material needs of survivors.

We are keeping all survivors and emergency responders throughout the country in our thoughts and prayers during this time.
