Our God Fights for Us
This coming weekend The Salvation Army and Christians around the world will observe the 7th Annual Weekend of Prayer & Fasting for Victims of Sexual Trafficking.
In addition to the thousands of prayers that will be offered on behalf of victims and those working to help them rebuild their lives, I hope a new theme will be added to the pleas that are lifted up to God—a theme that practically shouts to us from the book of Joshua.
As Joshua was leading the Israelites into what was to be their new homeland after centuries of slavery in Egypt, God made it clear to Joshua that He would go with them and that He would fight for them. In battle after battle, as long as the Israelites were faithful to God, He delivered them from their enemies and brought them glorious victories (see Joshua 23:9-11).
In much the same way, today we need to ask God to fight for us, that we too may have victory over the strongholds that hold men, women and children, in bondage to the sex trade, that they too may find rest and restoration in a “promised land.”
Indeed, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)!
