Tweet #BedandBread Today to Help Fight Hunger & Homelessness
The Salvation Army Bed & Bread Program out of Detroit serves more than 5,000 meals to children, adults and seniors every day via trucks that make stops in the city’s most depressed areas, and feeds more than 1.8 million residents annually! Additionally, more than 400 men, women and children are sheltered by The Salvation Army’s Bed & Bread program every day and night of the year.
This incredible program began 26 years ago with a simple premise: by giving a small amount on a regular basis, a donor can help The Salvation Army fight poverty in practical ways and make lasting change.
The number one source of financial support for the program is the annual Bed & Bread Club Radiothon which is taking place all day today out of Oakland Mall in Troy, MI with News/Talk 760 WJR-AM radio hosts Paul W. Smith, Frank Beckmann, Mitch Albom and Dick Purtan leading the charge. Last year’s Radiothon raised an incredible $1.7 million for Detroit residents in need.
It’s easier than ever to support The Salvation Army’s efforts in alleviating food insecurity and sheltering families in Eastern Michigan:
Twitter: As part of the Radiothon, the 2nd annual Tweetathon is in full swing. Throughout the day, Ford Motor Company will donate $3 for each tweet that uses the #BedandBread hashtag, up to $25,000! Simply tweet on behalf of the organization and encourage others to pledge their support.
“By tweeting #BedandBread during the Tweet-a-thon metro Detroiters are joining the ‘Club That’s Here for Good’ in the fight against hunger and homelessness,” said Major Mark Anderson, general secretary and metro Detroit area commander for The Salvation Army Eastern Michigan Division. “We are so grateful to the Ford Motor Company Fund for supporting the Bed & Bread Club’s most crucial fundraiser.”
