Welsh music icon, Dame Shirley Bassey sang her hit “Goldfinger” at the Oscars last night in tribute to the 50th anniversary of the James Bond movie franchise and the 1964 theme song that launched her international music career. Dressed from head-to-toe in sparkly gold, Bassey gave an effortless performance that received the largest ovation of the evening.

Although some of her biggest hits were about diamonds and gold, Bassey’s music career began in a working-class dockside district in Cardiff, Wales’ Capital city, where she discovered her talent and love for music while singing in The Salvation Army’s youth choir as a Junior Soldier.

From her start at The Salvation Army, Bassey began singing at local public houses and clubs before signing her first professional contract at the age of 15. Bassey is one of many talented vocalists and musicians who discovered their passion for music with the help of a Salvation Army youth program.

Music has always played an important part in Salvation Army ministry and life from its earliest days in England, providing an expression of faith and form of recreation. To learn more about the youth music programs of The Salvation Army near you, visit www.SalvationArmyUSA.org.

  1. Is she still a follower of Christ today?
    What race is she?
    Does she have a family?
    jmp

  2. Anonymous, Dame Shirley Bassey is of mixed race: Her father was from Nigeria, her mother was from Yorkshire, England. Dame Shirley has been married and divorced twice. She has 3 children, one of whom is deceased. She also has five grandchildren.

  3. I’m amazed, I must say. Rarely do I come across a blog that’s equally educative and entertaining, and without a
doubt, you’ve hit the nail on the head. The issue is something which too few people are speaking intelligently about. Now i’m very happy I found this during my search for something
    relating to this.

  4. An outstanding share! I have just forwarded this onto a friend who was
doing a little homework on this. And he in fact ordered me
dinner simply because I discovered it for him…
lol. So allow me to reword this…. Thank YOU for the meal!!
But yeah, thanks for spending some time to discuss this topic here on your web
    page.

  5. Its such as you learn my thoughts! You seem to understand a lot approximately this, such as you wrote the
ebook in it or something. I believe that you simply could do with a few
p.c. to force the message house a little bit, but instead of that, that is magnificent
blog. A great read. I will certainly be back.

  6. It becomes an adventure to walk the twists and turns with
your mate on this journey called life. This is accomplished by
the solar activity ionizing our atmosphere causing it
to act like a big mirror to radio signals. More recent studies have shown that the
death toll may have been closer to 12,000 people.
