Target Provides Gift Cards and Smiles to Kids in Need

For me, going back to school evoked a range of emotions: excitement about playing soccer and basketball and reuniting with friends, while also feeling a bit anxious about the tough classes ahead.

So my favorite part about going back was getting organized with new school supplies.

Having the right tools can make entering that new classroom just a little less intimidating, like you can take on anything with your new crisp notebook and freshly sharpened pencil.

Who knew confidence was an essential back-to-school item?

Target does, and they’re helping The Salvation Army ease the financial commitment for these new supplies for families in need.

Thanks to Target’s generous partnership, 12,000 underprivileged students are being treated to an unforgettable Back-to School-Shopping spree for supplies, clothing and other must-have items. Target awarded The Salvation Army $1 million donation to cover gift cards and transportation costs. Each child is given an $80 gift card to towards the essential school supplies for the upcoming school year.

For some children, this might be the first time they walk into that classroom with brand new supplies and a sense of confidence for the year ahead.

Check out the smiling faces below of kids from Colorado, Hawaii and Tennessee, who went shopping last week on Target’s dime and with the help of Salvation Army volunteers.

The Salvation Army would like to say once again, THANK YOU to Target for their continued efforts and commitment to supporting our youth and education! We would also like to acknowledge the many volunteers who took the time to help make this event unforgettable.
