Garbage Bag Gala Raises $13,000 for Homeless in St. Louis
Duct tape, used wine corks and trash bags aren’t the typical materials of every day clothing, but with help of designers from The Salvation Army St. Louis’ Garbage Bag Gala, you may consider a more eco-friendly wardrobe.
At the August 2nd event, more than 20 talented designers displayed unique and fashion-forward creations out of materials most people would throw away, while simultaneously raising awareness and funds for The Salvation Army’s homeless and social services in St. Louis. Among the designers was AJ Thouvenot, a contestant on Project Runway Season 8 and St. Louis native.
“Too many times, the people who need our help the most are viewed the same way: as throwaways,” said Captain Matt O’Neil, a Salvation Army officer who spoke at the event. “But at The Salvation Army, we believe everything and everyone deserves a second chance.”
In the end, more than $13,000 was raised in support of The Salvation Army’s homeless and social services in St. Louis.
