The annual InformationWeek 500 listing identifies and honors the nation’s most innovative users of business technology. Each year, winners share inspiring stories of how technology improved customer service and employee productivity.

Among the many large businesses and organizations named on this year’s list is The Salvation Army Western Territory, also named in the IT publication’s “20 Great Ideas to Steal in 2013” feature for the territory’s development of 32 highly successful mobile applications.

Guided by feedback from users and internal staff, these apps were designed to save on various costs such as Family Store inventory and time.

Two apps with the most impact include one that summarizes sales for stores in real time, and another that tracks the number and type of goods being donated in every location, streamlining the distribution of inventory. This is especially useful during a disaster when The Salvation Army serves by meeting the unique, material needs of survivors.

Improved social services? There’s an app for that too. Through mobile devices, social workers of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Programs gain quicker access to a client’s case management history, personal and medical information. which has helped improve treatment, increase success rates, and strengthen relationships with program participants.

Some of these apps can be seen at https://mobileapps.usawest.org.

A huge congratulation to the Western Territory for innovatively Doing the Most Good for those in the most need!
