It’s Fall…Bring on the pumpkin!

It’s officially fall!

The leaves are beginning to change and the air is becoming cool and crisp. It’s the season for boots, fireplaces, and delicious fall foods. It’s also National Preparedness Month, a time to make sure that you and your family are well equipped and prepared for any possible disaster.

Each Friday of this month, we have given you a sneak -peek into The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services Cookbook- used by Salvation Army personnel and volunteers to serve individuals and communities who have been directly affected by a disaster.  What you may not know, is that our mobile canteens serve some serious comfort food which can a good remedy for restoring hope, love and comfort for disaster survivors and relief workers

So as Preparedness Month comes to an end and we head into October, we wanted to share one last recipe with you. It’s literally fall in a pan.

PUMPKIN BREAD

2 eggs, beaten                                  1 tsp baking soda

1 ½ cup sugar                                   ¾ tsp salt

1 cup pumpkin                                  ½ tsp cloves

½ cup oil                                          ½ tsp cinnamon

½ cup water                                      1 2/3 cup flour

¼ tsp baking powder

Combine eggs and sugar; mix well. Add pumpkin, oil and water; blend well. Add dry ingredients and pour into greased bread pan. Bake at 350⁰ for about one hour.
