Giving Tuesday: Four ways to get started!

_DSC6718

Everyone is familiar with Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but do you know what today is?

It’s the second annual Giving Tuesday, the official opening day of the giving season!  The Salvation Army, along with other charities, businesses, families and individuals across the country are teaming up to encourage giving back this Christmas and beyond.

It’s a great day to give back and spread joy and love! Need inspiration? Here are four ways you can give this Christmas Season:

Give Joy:

The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program provides new clothing or toys for children of needy families through the support of donors.  And thanks to the generosity of our participants, thousands of American children will be able to experience the thrill of Christmas morning and find a gift with their name on it waiting beneath the Christmas tree.

Give joy to an Angel in your town today, contact your local Salvation Army by entering your zip code at www.SalvationArmyUSA.org.

Give Peace:

As a result of monetary contributions from our supporters, the Army is able to provide a vast range of services such as offer shelter to those without a home, assist working-poor families with emergency rent and utility bill payments and more!

Give peace of mind with the gift of warmth and comfort to those in your community.  Visit http://donate.salvationarmyusa.org/

Give Hope:

Consider donating your gently used goods such as clothing, furniture and household items to your local Salvation Army Family Store and provide a brighter future for residents undergoing physical and spiritual rehabilitation at our Adult Rehabilitation Centers (ARC).

Give Comfort:

In an effort to combat food insecurity, The Salvation Army meets this basic need with our food pantries which provide groceries for individuals and families in need.

Give comfort by helping us ensure tables don’t go bare and those less fortunate have enough to eat. With just a few donated cans, you can provide food – and a holiday meal – for a family in need. To donate a bag of nonperishable foods to your local Salvation Army food pantry, check out our main website for a list of locations near you:  www.SalvationArmyUSA.org.

Happy giving!

  1. I called 2 salvation army stores to find a Angel Tree. No one knew of one in the City of Detroit. Please help me find a tree with names on it.

  2. Google ‘Angel Tree locations’ in your area, should be able to find an organization that is participating. Try Big Brothers and Big Sisters or the Boy’s and Girl’s Club too.

  4. I was shocked at the Christmas angel program this year. I went to take a few angels to help the needy children and what do I find . These kids want $500.00 X BOX one and extremely expensive Lego sets. Boy have times changed from buying them snow pant , warm coats. and other things they really needed. This has turned me off of the program for good. My own family cannot afford $500 to $600 gifts for our children. These angels were located at the Adams Community Bank in North Adams, where many are out of work themselves, but still wanted to help. You should be ashamed for asking for these type of gifts.
