Vote Houston Rockets Center Dwight Howard for Community Assist Award
Houston Rockets power forward/center Dwight Howard received the March Kia 2013-2014 Community Assist Award in recognition of his charitable contributions and efforts in the Greater Houston area, including The Salvation Army’s Family Residence. The award recognizes an NBA player each month who best reflects the passion that the league and its players have for giving back to their communities.
As one of 10 nominees, Howard has designated The Salvation Army of Houston as his Charity of Choice to receive a $25,000 donation from NBA Cares, having dedicated his time and resources to helping disadvantaged children and their families throughout Houston via The Salvation Army Residence Center in Houston.
Along with an NBA panel of judges, fans can vote for their NBA player of choice via social media through May 5 using Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram with #KiaCommunityAssist.
We hope Salvation Army supporters will vote for Dwight Howard as winner of this award. Monetary support of The Salvation Army’s Residence Center in Houston helps provide sanctuary and a life-changing program to homeless single women and families through a nurturing environment, that offers classes and counseling to adults and children. The program is designed to address the underlying causes of homelessness and facilitate healing, thereby providing the necessary tools to return to independence.
