The effects of the Great Recession are still lingering and the number of Americans living in poverty is on the rise. According to The State of Poverty, 46.5 million people lived in poverty in the United States in 2012, meaning the poverty rate was at 15%.
The Salvation Army works to provide to housing, food, financial and other assistance for those who are homeless or living in poverty. Last year, with the help of our supporters, The Salvation Army provided more than 30 million individuals in the United States with a variety of services, including over 10 million nights of lodging and nearly 60 million meals.
