Krispy Kreme helps The Salvation Army Celebrate National Doughnut Day

The most mouthwatering holiday is upon us! The Salvation Army is gearing up to celebrate the 79th Annual National Doughnut Day! This year this magical day takes place on Friday, June 3.

Started as a fundraiser by The Salvation Army in Chicago during the Great Depression, National Doughnut Day honors our military veterans and commemorates the work of  The Salvation Army volunteers who used the tasty confection to comfort American soldiers in France and Germany during World War I.
These female volunteers, earning the nickname “Doughnut Lassies” and “Doughtnut Girls,” fried the doughnuts in solders’ helmets, and served countless treats to grateful troops. The doughnut has since been a long-standing symbol of the services and comfort The Salvation Army provides. To this day, The Salvation Army continues to provide comfort with coffee and doughnuts to survivors and emergency responders who need support on the scene of disaster.

This year, The Salvation Army is partnering with Krispy Kreme Doughnuts for National Doughnut Day. On Friday, June 3- at participating locations in the U.S and Canada- Krispy Kreme customers will receive a free doughnut of their choice and have an opportunity to donate directly to The Salvation Army!

Krispy Kreme customers are encouraged to donate to The Salvation Army’s mini Red Kettles at participating locations. All donations to The Salvation Army will support the local communities where the donation was made.

However you choose to celebrate, we wish you a Happy #NationalDoughnutDay!
