Elizabeth fled from an abusive boyfriend twice. Both times she was welcomed into the warm embrace of The Salvation Army.
Melynda knew she was in trouble when she was hit so hard she temporarily lost eye sight. She still wears an eye patch and is unsure if she will ever see clearly in her left eye.

Several thrift store outfits made a flashy comeback on Saturday, March 10th when Mrs. Lauralee Balash, Mrs. Portland 2012, who is a soldier and a volunteer leader at The Salvation Army Portland Tabernacle, competed for the title wearing outfits she found at her local Salvation Army Family Store.

The Salvation Army’s National Advisory Board (NAB) is growing! As of January 1, nine new members were joyfully welcomed into an already dynamic group of civic, philanthropic and business leaders. Each new member offers a diverse range of business skills and experience.
“We are thrilled to be growing the size and scope of The Salvation Army’s National Advisory Board,” said National Board Chair and President of Charities for the Dallas Cowboys, Mrs. Charlotte Jones Anderson. “The Board has now grown to 44 members and the combined wealth of experience, talent and dedication of these new leaders will bring a wonderful set of fresh ideas to our goal of helping others.”

Sleep and shelter: two of our most basic needs.

The company, which is owned by Sealy, is donating $1 million worth of new mattresses to The Salvation Army.

In recent years, Salvation Army bell ringers have attempted to bring a little pizzazz into their kettle duties in order to spur interest and donations. You might remember the tiny bell ringing horse from last year or Elvis himself manning a red kettle!
This year’s creative bell ringing award goes to…Bell Ringers David Kelly and Christopher Hinzman, Cadets in The Salvation Army School for Officer Training!

Thanks to Salvation Army supporters like you, Jake Snyder has been reunited with his four children after the kids were homeless in Hawaii (see photos). The kids – Zebulon (“Z”), 16; Emily, 15; Jake Jr., 14; and Joey, 11 – were abandoned by their mother. They spent months living in a tent city with other homeless children.
