Cokie’s Behind Our Cause

Wednesday, November 17, 2010

Yes, that woman behind The Salvation Army shield clenching a triumphant fist is none other than one of the nation’s most renowned news and political analysts Cokie Roberts, also known as a “Living Legend” by the Library of Congress.

Mrs. Roberts delivered the keynote speech at The Salvation Army Greater Houston Area Command’s 2010 Annual Luncheon this past Saturday to hundreds of Army supporters.

Addressing the crowd, she said, “If we want our country to succeed and for people in our country to do well we have to support organizations like The Salvation Army because that’s the way we get our kids into better situations. The Salvation Army does such incredible work around the country and around the world, but especially here in Houston where the programs are incredibly expensive for older citizens, for children, for young moms, and of course, for the people who are homeless or on the streets.”

Wow.

Coming from a woman who has won three Emmys, earned a niche in the Broadcasting and Cable Hall of Fame, and is honored as one of the 50 greatest women in the history of broadcasting, we’re grateful to have her champion our cause. Thanks, Cokie, for your support!

We hope it will draw further attention to the good work the Army is doing across the country so that more people in need may be served as a result.
