It’s a Record: $142 Million in Giving!

Wednesday, February 23, 2011

Thank you, America! The Salvation Army raised $142 million in Christmas Red Kettles during the 2010 season, setting a record for the sixth straight year!

This is great news considering how much more need we’ve seen across the country, and these funds will go to support our many programs year round.

Wow. It was a busy Red Kettle season, to say the least. We used many of our traditional efforts, from the volunteer bell ringers you probably saw on every corner, to our annual Thanksgiving Day Kickoff at Cowboys Stadium. Plus, we had a few new ideas up our sleeves, like our Rock the Red Kettle Concert and a new iPhone app.

When it all comes down to it, though, we couldn’t have done any of this without you. Thank you for your generosity. And thanks to our many corporate partners for your continued support. We’re very grateful for all of your help with assisting those in need!

If you’d like to know more about our record Red Kettle Season, check out our official press release here.

Wished You Were Here

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

There was a lot of energy and excitement at the Rascal Flatts/JCPenney Angel Tree Toy Drive in Manhattan last week! Too many fans to count turned out with new toys for some lucky angels.

Rascal Flatts weaved in and out of the crowd to meet as many people as possible and sign copies of their new album. From the photos it looked like a scene from Where’s Waldo?

The evening’s climax came when toy drive partners JCPenney (represented by VP Rick Jones), Rascal Flatts, and The Salvation Army (represented by Major George Hood) took the stage to share what a positive impact the program would have on children and seniors in need. They thanked the audience for their generous support.

When Major Hood returned from NYC, I asked him about his thoughts on the event and our partners. His response was very encouraging.

“They’re so committed to these kids. It’s really refreshing to work with a retailer who wants to make sure kids are cared for,” he noted.

“This is a corporate partnership where the people involved really are focused on meeting the needs of children – making sure kids have Christmas presents is more important to JCPenney and Rascal Flatts than any recognition they’re going to get.”

Just how important, you ask? Each member of Rascal Flatts has already adopted an angel of their own.

So what are you waiting for? Adopt yours today.

Nothing Like This

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

Multi-platinum country music band Rascal Flatts’ latest album officially hits stores today. If you’re trying to decide where to buy your copy of ‘Nothing Like This,’ may we offer some information to help make it easier for you?

The CD is expected to sell at stores for around $10, but only at JCPenney will $1 of your album purchase be donated to The Salvation Army.

Plus, Rascal Flatts is joining the JCPenney in Manhattan to host a toy drive tomorrow, Nov. 17 at 7:30pm to benefit our Angel Giving Tree program. The first 100 people to donate new, unwrapped toys to the store will get an autographed Nothing Like This CD.

If you’re in the area, stop by and say hi to Major George Hood, our National Community Relations and Development Secretary, who will be in town for the event! Rascal Flatts will present him with a $100,000 donation to The Salvation Army. Learn more about JCPenney and Rascal Flatts’ generous support at jcp.com/rascalflatts.

We realize most people won’t be in NYC, so you can show your support by adopting an angel online at jcp.com/angel. More than 165,000 children and seniors in need are waiting to be adopted this holiday season.

Meanwhile, if you’re reading this and are thinking, “Who is Rascal Flatts?” you’ve probably heard their music without even realizing it. Their hit cover “Life is a Highway” appeared in Pixar’s animated movie Cars, and their song “What Hurts the Most” made it to the Top Ten of Billboard’s Hot 100.

They’re a talented band that’s committed to giving back, so we encourage you to check them out!

Thursday, November 4, 2010

This week is the official launch of The Salvation Army and JCPenney’s annual Angel Giving Tree online Christmas gift drive at jcp.com/angel!

Now you can play Santa for children and seniors in need by adopting these “angels” and buying presents from their wish lists.

Christmas shopping for family and loved ones is a daunting holiday task for almost everyone, but it’s especially so for those who don’t have the financial means to buy gifts. Fortunately, Angel Giving Tree online provides them peace of mind when generous supporters like you lend a helping hand.

Just ask Yolanda Wheeler, a blind, single mother from Jackson, MI raising two children and her teenage sister. Her kids will have gifts this year thanks to Angel Giving Tree.

To help other families like Yolanda’s just go to jcp.com/angel to adopt someone today. You can even choose an angel in your area by searching by zip code or find one according to age and gender. You’ll also be able to find gift drop-off locations or an address to mail your presents for free thanks to UPS.

There are more than 100,000 kids and seniors across the country waiting to be adopted. With your help, you can make sure they have some very-much needed presents waiting for them under the tree when they wake up on Christmas morning.
