This Weekend: You’re Invited to Kroctoberfest!

Thursday, October 27, 2011

Leaves are spinning, the temperatures are dropping, and there’s crispness in the air that stirs up a special nostalgia experienced only in the unique month of October. As we anticipate the coming holidays, newly formed Salvation Army Kroc Centers throughout the country are creating their own fall tradition: KROCTOBERFEST.

The real question remains: Is RJ Kroc of German heritage? Either way, the name is an appropriate title for the annual celebration of fall at the Kroc Centers.

While many Kroc Centers have started their Kroctobers already, this coming weekend is jam-packed with events for the communities surrounding the Centers.

To name just a few, here are some of the Kroc locations offering events this weekend.

San Francisco, CA: Spiders will be spinning webs at the San Francisco Kroc Center’s 4th Anniversary Halloween Carnival, which takes place on Friday, October 28, 2011 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Admission is free for all children and their families. Children and their families will be able to enjoy a host of activities, food, and games – including bowling, sharp shooter, mini golf, cake walk, ping-pong, and as a special addition the courtyard bounce house. Prizes will also be awarded for the best costumes, with a congratulatory hug from R.J Kroc, our friendly and always-popular 7-foot mascot. Learn more.

Coeur d’Alene, ID: The Kroc Center of Coeur d’Alene is hosting a concert on Friday night, October 28- the Panhandle Polecats will be stirring up some bluegrass for only $8 per ticket. The weekend will conclude with an expected 3,000 guests at gigantic “Wild West” themed Halloween party, complete with bounce houses, booths, movies in the theater, and of course – Mr. RJ Kroc himself! Learn more.

San Diego, CA: On Saturday, October 29, The Kroc Center of San Diego will be hosting the annual Boo Bash Halloween Carnival. From 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m., you can enjoy ice-skating, carnival games, bounce houses, rock climbing and, what else? “Trick-or-Treating”! Not a member? The price is only $2 for entrance. Learn more.

Atlanta, GA: The Kroc Center of Atlanta is hosting a Senior Fall Ball on Sunday, October 30th. Guests can enjoy a nice meal, live music and dancing. On October 31, join in the Family Fun! Chosen Vessels, a Christian dance group, will be performing. The night will also include activities for teens and children. Learn more.

Augusta, GA: While “Kroctoberfest” may have happened last Saturday, there is still plenty going on this weekend at The Kroc Center of Augusta. Aptly titled Kroptoberfest, the Center is hosting a scrapbooking party from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m., followed by “Trunk or Treat” for members, guests and staff. Child-friendly costumes are welcome and prizes will be awarded. Learn more.

Kerrville, TX: Join the Kroc Center of Kerrville, TX for Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 29. Free and open to the public from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., the event includes games, pumpkin patch, food, face painting, and bounce houses. Learn more.

Omaha, NE: The Kroc Center of Omaha is hosting a Pumpkin Patch Party on Monday, October 31 from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Not a member? The price is only $5 for entry! Also a bonus: The first 200 kids get a free bag of treats. Learn more.

And this isn’t all. There are plenty of events happening this weekend at Kroc Centers nationwide. These events are provided as part of The Salvation Army Kroc Centers’ mission of providing safe and secure family events within communities. We hope you will join in your local Kroctoberfest: celebrating fall, fellowship and friends at your local Kroc Center!

Thousands Gather for Kroc Center Grand Opening

Wednesday, September 21, 2011

The grand opening of The Salvation Army Kroc Community Center of Quincy, IL brought thousands of community members together on Sunday afternoon. Following a ribbon cutting ceremony, guests had an exciting sneak peak at the finished product – one they’ve been waiting to see since the project began seven years ago. Soon-to-be members strolled through the gleaming hallways and admired the grand state-of-the-art amenities which became officially available to the public on Monday.

Grand it is! The beautifully constructed community center boasts an aquatic center, rock wall, worship and performance center, gym and day care center.

Upon her passing, donor Joan Kroc left The Salvation Army $1.5 billion for the development of approximately 30 Kroc Center’s across the country. The centers are intended to create positive effects on the surrounding areas – strengthening the family and community bond, bettering the economy and creating opportunities to grow and learn.

As part of her gift, she asked that the communities wishing to acquire a community center be capable of raising half of the money needed for the project- an effort to ensure sustainability. We admire communities such as Quincy that were able to organize, fundraise and establish the needed community support.

The best part? Memberships are very affordable! These can be purchased on an annual or monthly basis with prices ranging from $336 per year for an individual to $600 per year for a family. Want to know how you can become part of the Kroc Community in Quincy? Contact Angie Duerr at 855-872-5762.

Check out the video above to get a closer look at all of the fun options available to members!

Kroc Center Opens in Greenbay, Wisconsin

Friday, September 2, 2011

The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center of Greenbay, Wisconsin warmly welcomed the community at the grand opening on Saturday, August 20 after seven years in development.

Area children and families are excited as the impressive 95,000-square-foot Center will provide a great source of entertainment and learning opportunities throughout the year. The Center includes a fitness center, performing arts auditorium, swimming pool, library, computer laboratory, dental clinic, dance studio, gymnasium and more!

The official dedication and ribbon-cutting of the $24 million facility took place on August 27. Following the dedication, the Center hosted the “Kroc and Roll Ball”, a 1950’s-themed opening gala honoring founders Ray and Joan Kroc. The theme recalled the decade that Ray Kroc founded McDonald’s.

Gala guests enjoyed dinner and music provided by an appropriately themed barbershop quartet.

“The impact of this facility will go far beyond a building,” Captain Ken Shiels, Brown County coordinator, stated. “It will be a place for kids, families and individuals to develop new interests and life-changing and life-affirming skills. The Kroc Center is an extension of our mission to serve people as our resources allow, raising people up and strengthening, encouraging and enriching their lives.”

The Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Centers are being constructed in various cities across the country in an effort to provide opportunities that facilitate positive, life-changing experiences through art, athletics, personal development, spiritual discovery and community service.

There are currently 13 Centers across the country, with ten in the works. Each center is open to people of all ages and income levels.

You can learn more about the Greenbay Kroc Center by visiting their Facebook page or Website.
