Furniture Campaign

Helps Ohio Family Start Over

Tasjana Varner and her kids, of Akron, OH, are truly starting over in life, thanks to The Salvation Army and American Signature Furniture’s Million Dollar Furniture campaign.

Once a victim of domestic abuse and now a single mother of two children, Tasjana has faced many emotional and financial obstacles in the last few years.

In need of shelter, the family turned to The Salvation Army for temporary protection until the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP) of Cleveland provided the family a transitional living residence. It wasn’t until Tasjana requested food from The Salvation Army that a case worker there learned the family had been sleeping on blankets on the wood floor in place of beds.

The case worker helped the family apply for furniture from our partner in giving, American Signature Inc. (ASI), the parent company of American Signature and Value City Furniture stores. The generous retailer has been providing new furniture for families in need throughout the last several months, such as the new beds, couches and dining room set that Tasjana received.

Check out her story and appreciation in the video below, provided by The Salvation Army Eastern Territory. We are so thankful for ASI's incredible partnership in Doing the Most Good!
