Helps Twin Cities Kettle Volunteers In New Ways

From the moment you open the new iPhone App for Twin Cities bell ringers, you know it’s from The Salvation Army.

The latest version of the free “Bell Ringer TC” app starts with the clang of a bell and reveals a new menu of ways for volunteers to connect to The Salvation Army and the world. (Get the app.)

“This app puts everything you need for bell ringing in the palm of your hand,” said Major Jeff Strickler, commander of the Twin Cities Salvation Army. “The fun part is it actually turns your phone into a bell.”

The app includes the option to register to ring, a video for preparing for your shift and ways to get social about your volunteering time at the kettle. There are answers to all kinds of frequently asked questions too: Are dogs allowed at kettles? What happens if the weather is bad? Who should you call for help?

The original Bell Ringer TC app and this updated version were created by a team of volunteers at U.S. Bank, headed employee Kerim Incedavi, Lead Mobile Developer, User Experience.

“Hopefully we have created a worthwhile app that will benefit those in need for years to come,” Incedavi said during an  interview about the first phase of the app. “I was very happy to be provided the opportunity to volunteer my user experience skills to The Salvation Army on behalf of U.S. Bank.”

Twin Cities Salvation Army leaders say this project is a great example of the innovative ways volunteers can support The Salvation Army.

“If you’ve got the know-how, it’s likely The Salvation Army has a project for you,” Strickler said. “Donated professional services save us money that we can turn around and use to expand the reach of our important programs.
