Author shares how Salvation Army encouraged his love of reading
“The Salvation Army sparked my interest in reading from an early age. When I was young, my dad brought me a copy of the Hardy Boys from The Salvation Army Thrift Store where he worked. Ever since then, whenever anybody would donate a Hardy Boys book, dad would bring it home,” Wells told us.
Wells is donating 1,600 copies of first book, which has just been released, to Salvation Army community centers around the nation. “The Salvation Army is a long through-line in my life and I love to be able to serve those you’re serving in some small way,” he stated.
Wells grew up overseas in Nigeria and then moved to Illinois, where his father was both a pastor at a church and volunteered at The Salvation Army in Springfield, IL. After college, Wells went onto continue volunteering (with his now wife, Nancy) at The Salvation Army’s Catherine Booth Home in Cincinnati.
Later in life as he became a working professional and started a family of his own, Wells continued his journey of making a difference in people’s lives—this time, in the lives ofchildren. He wanted to make a change in the entertainment industry and produce morepositive and educational material for young kids. “After about a year and a half of prayer, I decided that I wanted to commit the rest of my life to developing entertainment that brings out what’s best in us,” he said.
Over the last several years, in-between working on family movies, being a husband and dad, a pastor and working to fight child trafficking around the world, he has created his own new adventure series, The League and the Lantern, available for purchase here. The books will be donated to 400 different Salvation Army community centers and summer camps around the nation.
We thank Brian for this wonderful donation, and encourage you to pick up a copy of your own! From now until the end of summer, for every copy bought on the site, another will be donated to a charity.
